Hell for the conductor selling or checking tickets for heaps of people only going a stop or 2. Wish we had those concrete blocks beside the tracks eastbound where cars and taxis often double parked waiting for people coming out of offices, sending following traffic onto the tram lines and holding us up when we had no time to spare. All were happy when that shift was abandoned any day as the crew was needed on a ‘real’ service that actually went somewhere.

    Hey tressteleg1 you have posted another great video. I like the new skyrail section and the parts that will get skyrail in the future. They could have included Upfield station as a future skyrail project considering the protesters wanting improvements beyond Gowrie. This inclusion will depend on the state government's view and intentions .

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1 10 часов назад

      Not living in Melbourne, I can’t comment on whether Upfield should have been elevated or not, but all the crossing removals are for the benefit of motorists, passengers being inconvenienced by the need to go up or down to reach stations no longer at street level. It is a bit unfortunate that the line will again be closed for some time if the planned city end of the line gets those several station uplifts done.

    Hey tressteleg1 how do they control the points for this route? Who controls the traffic lights? Did you do this route when you were driving trams in the late 80's? How do passengers signal to get off the tram at certain stops? I have physical ridden on the light rail( trams ) in Sydney and this is a great view of a Melbourne tram in action.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1 10 часов назад

      @@frankbanner8572 You have me a little confused apparently asking about tramway points in a trains video, but just to be clear, signal boxes set all points for trains in conjunction with trackside non-automatic signals. As for the trams, the Z, A and B class originally had a 3 position knob, normally pointing straight ahead. A tram length or 2 before the junction there is a wire loop in the road and if the driver wished to go left or right, turned the knob in that direction passing over the loop. Leaving the knob alone sets points for straight. If a tram ahead was going another way, the points equipment remembered the new choice and changed points when the tram ahead moved off. In later trams that knob was replaced by a couple of coloured push buttons which worked just the same. Apparently some older trams now have these buttons. Most traffic lights are computer controlled from some city location. Loops in the road in some places tell traffic lights when a tram is there and insert or add a T light when the lights will change anyway. Trams don’t suddenly force lights to change, unlike Sydney, Gold Coast and Canberra. I don’t know what tram route you are referring to, but if it Collin’s st, yes I drove it on the 10 or 12. Melbourne passengers must pull a cord or press a button to get the tram to stop. You will hear a beep or buzz in some videos. Those other tramways stop at all stops

    Hey tressteleg1 I have another comment. There is a possibility that the trees which are on each side of the line in places could be blown onto the track if the area got hit with very strong winds. The strong winds blew a tree down onto the light rail(tram) line at Pyrmont recently. The tree got tangled up in the overhead wiring. This light rail line was converted from a disused freight only line a few years ago. This line went from Darling Harbour to Dulwich Hill.

    Hey tressteleg1 what state are you from? I live in Sydney NSW and I am only commenting on my observations of the video that you posted. I still think that the Victorian government could look at this line and futureproof it. They could duplicate the line where possible by that I mean not removing any trees. The butterflies rely on a species of eucalyptus trees according to Wikipedia. Why don't they just grow more of these trees in a nursery and them plant them out. Thd only other thing that I noticed is the amount of trees that are close to the line bushfire hazard.

As for this line, I suspect that especially the outer areas of this line has sparse population (not many houses in what we see) so spending more money on the line is not going to win many votes. Any attempt to move or otherwise disturb the butterfly colony will be harshly resisted. Sure, start up a protected butterfly habitat, but don’t touch this colony. Knowing what NIMBYs are like, they would probably protest any attempts to move away any trees - and then complain when a bushfire destroys the railway.

      @peterausfranken I looked it up, and the A class trams first appeared in 1984. I moved to Melbourne late 1987, and remember having a tour on A 300 soon after. Road traffic was removed from Swanson Street around 1992 and since then the footpaths have widened and other improvements made. Especially over the last 10 years, a lot of track in poor condition has been replaced and overall the ride is much smoother these days. However junctions and other point work often remains noisy and cause the trams to bounce around sometimes. Hopefully in 2026 you will have plenty of time. It takes quite a while to ride some of the longer lines.

    Dit verbaast mij een klein beetje, een mooie nieuwe tram, mooie spoorlijnen, maar de maximum snelheid is 70 kilometer per uur. En op de weg voor auto's is de snelheidslimiet 80 kilometer per uur. De video zelf is prachtig!!! This surprises me a little bit, a nice new tram, beautiful railway lines, but the maximum speed is 70 kilometers per hour. And on the way for cars the speed limit is 80 kilometers per hour. The video itself is beautiful!!! Ik vind het ook oneerlijk dat de tram niet 80 kilometer per uur mag rijden. Onze trams tussen Den Haag - Zoetermeer vliegen met een snelheid van 80 kilometer per uur. I also think it is unfair that the tram is not allowed to ride at 80 kilometers per hour. @@openbaarvervoer.6883 Thanks. I’m pleased you like the video. When the line was extended from the Hospital to Helensvale Rail in 2018, I thought that 80 may be permitted, but it is not. Maybe the trams cannot go faster, maybe they don’t trust 100% low floor trams with fixed bogies to safely run that fast. Nevertheless 70 is faster than any Melbourne tram (60 is the limit, so is Berlin much to the annoyance of my driver friend there). 70 is also used in Canberra, but only 60 in Adelaide. The L1 in Sydney did have a section of 80 through a tunnel but for a few reasons (or excuses) that is no longer permitted. Are the trams on your 80k line 100% low floor and with or without swivelling bogies? Only Melbourne has swivelling on their E class, but still only 60. Incidentally I took video of Netherlands trams in the 1980s and early 90s, but have never published any.

    The Metro Rail Tunnel is a joke, and it's a complete travisty that trains on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines won't be going through South Yarra and Richmond, passengers that want to get off at South Yarra and Richmond will have to exchange trains at Caulfeild into an already crowded train from Frankston, that is not good for passengers that are elderly and or disabled. The Minister Of Transport and the PTV have to rethink and change their minds, and also what is going to happen with the Regional train service from Traralgon, I think that has been overlooked. Travelers on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines have put up so much with buses replacing trains due to the level crossing removal project, and put up with not being able to get off at South Yarra and Richmond because the pathetic tunnel route is just a total slap in the face.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1 16 дней назад

      @@sandrafowler6717 Agreed, especially with regard to the need to change trains at Caulfield, one of the most awkward stations to change platforms which requires touching off, leaving the station and then touching on again for the new platform. Unfortunately it’s much too late for a rethink on South Yarra. I’m not sure the tunnel even goes under that station so it’s not gonna be moved now. As for the regional train service, it will continue to be as it is - crawling along behind an all stations train as far as Pakenham. That’s the reason for the signals on that line turning themselves on and off according to which train is coming next. Those country trains need the signals showing, and they do, while the Metro Trains require no signal showing.
